Mission Beach Round 2

Sky is on year round schooling so she has a two week holiday every so often. She had one the last two weeks of June so the Olsens decided to take another trip up to the beautiful Mission Beach in the hopes that we could catch it in some better weather. It turned out to be beautiful the entire time!

We left on Wednesday the 26. On the way there we stopped in Tully the wettest town in Australia. They have this herculean gumboot that is 7.9 meters tall (about 30 feet). The hight of the boot is how much water they recieve annually!  You can climb  up and really get a feel for how much water 30 feet really is. AKA immense amounts of water!

Without the frog this would be a lame tourist attraction. And even with the frog well. . . .

We we arrived at Mission Beach the tide was pretty low, revealing some sandy mysteries like living Sand Dollars and Strange Sea Anemones I didn't bring my camera down to the beach very often for fear of it turning into another Jonah so I am sorry for the lack of creature photos.
Our campsite was right on the beach! We were basically lulled to sleep by the waves every night! It was great!

I am no used to the long flat beaches here they are beautiful and definitely worth seeing!

We had some awesome visitors that I have been dying to see for a while now.

Kookaburra! See as he sits in the old Gum tree, merry merry king of the bush is he. I wanted to get a recording of the call they make but I could never time it right. they are loud suckers though and it really sound like they are laughing or like they are wild monkeys!  So if you ever happen to be walking along Northern Queensland coast and you hear a ferocious sounding monkey: A. something fishy is going on because there are no monkeys in wild Australia or B. it is just this little guy.

On Friday we went on a drive down to south Mission Beach but the road along the coast we wanted to drive along was closed for construction (obnoxious construction!) so we just took some random roads through neighborhoods. There were kangaroos all over these yards! In one field we glimpsed at least 100 dining on the grass for dinner. We decided to get out of the car at a "park" and get a closer look.

A few of them had little Joeys. I just can't get enough Joeys :)

One thing is for sure, Mission Beach never fails to entertain.

I went on a little walk beach/forest trail with Summer as well. There were lots of good things like. . Uh. . ..trees :) and other things like enough Golden Orb Spiders to paper your walls. Which is saying something because walls almost always run on the big side.

We had some odd camping neighbors  hippies came and went with their vans. One set  of hippies even started climbing the palm trees and collecting the coconuts, while our next door neighbor had a strange set up with all kinds of welding equipment and Airisal spray cans. . . Davey was convinced he just lived there and was a wack job. There were many backpackers and even more old people. Pretty great huh? :)

One of the greatest things was the sunrise!
